Presented by Leslie A. Butler, Ravi K. Nigam, and Christopher J. Topa
Local attorneys present legal issues with business formation for real estate investors. They will discuss the both the advantages and disadvantages of different types of business entities including partnerships, LPs, LLCs, and corporations including synthetics, non-profit/low profit entities, and partnerships acting like corporations. The presentation will include potential tax implications in the selection of business entities including Federal, State, and local taxation including tax credits and incentives for business entities.
Leslie A. Butler: Attorney at Law, The Law Offices of Leslie A.
Butler, PLLC. Ms. Butler has many years of residential real estate experience
with a large company in Ann Arbor. An avid fan of all things real estate, from
financing to the legal allocation of water resources; she has worked with the
Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office Deed Fraud and Mortgage Fraud Unit and trained
in Foreclosure Prevention with the National Consumer Law Center. She also
assisted Sen. Hansen Clarke (D-Detroit) in drafting legislation for the
prevention of Foreclosure Fraud in Michigan. Ms. Butler is a graduate of Wayne
State University Law School.
Ravi K. Nigam: Attorney at Law, Ravi K. Nigam, P.C. He advises
individuals and companies on legal matters with an emphasis on corporate and
real estate matters. Ravi has experience in business startups through a business
of his own and is also a registered professional engineer in Michigan. Mr. Nigam
is a graduate of Wayne State University Law School.
Christopher J. Topa: Attorney at Law, Advocatus Law Firm, PLC.
He specializes in business and tax law. He advises a wide range of clients from
individuals to commercial real estate corporations. Besides a law degree, Mr.
Topa holds a MBA and a Masters of Professional Accountancy from the Kelley
School of Business. Mr. Topa spent seven years in a medium sized real estate
management and investment company as Vice President. He is a graduate of Ave
Maria School of Law and will be completing his Master of Laws in Taxation from
Wayne State University Law School in the very near future. Novi Real Estate Investors Association
